"I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these
grave evils, namely through the establishment of a
socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system
which would be oriented toward social goals. In such an
economy, the means of production are owned by society
itself and are utilized in a planned fashion. A planned
economy, which adjusts production to the needs of the
community, would distribute the work to be done among all
those able to work and would guarantee a livelihood to
every man, woman, and child. The education of the
individual, in addition to promoting his own innate
abilities, would attempt to develop in him a sense of
responsibility for his fellow-men in place of the
glorification of power and success in our present
society."

Albert Einstein, Why Socialism?, 1949 [49]

Einstein thought highly of Vladimir Lenin, saying: "I
honor Lenin as a man who completely sacrificed himself
and devoted all his energy to the realization of social
justice. I do not consider his methods practical, but one
thing is certain: men of his type are the guardians and
restorers of humanity."

Perhaps you didn't know it but Einstein was caught in
what I call a "KGB Sandwich", back in those days an "NKVD
Sandwich".

His personal secretary, Helen Dukas, "was involved in
Soviet underground work. p. 278

p. 279. US Army Intelligence quote re information given
to the FBI.

"Einstein's personal secretary turned the coded telegrams
over to a special apparat man, whose duty it was to
transmit them to Moscow by various means..."

She received coded telegrams from the Far East which were
then given to a Soviet operative re the above paragraph.

"The Venona Secrets", Exposing Soviet Espionage and
America's Traitors", Herbert Romerstein and Eric
Breindel, Regnery, 2000.

There is a lot more on Einstein and the German Communist
Party and Willi Munzenberg Soviet fronts.

Later, his personal aide, I believe at Princeton, was
Communist Party USA covert member Otto Nathan.

Thus Einstein, who had been sympathetic to the Soviet
Union to the point of being either completely fooled or
an actual sympathizer, was trapped in the NKVD Sandwich
tactic. This continued to some extent into the late
forties. Romerstein, pp. 278-279; 382; 397; 398-99.

And he did make/write several really stupid statements in
support of Soviet socialsm and Stalin before the 1956
denunciation of Stalin's crimes by Khruschev. I think
Einstein died before they came out.

Never liked Einstein. Arrogant a$$hole.
After Oliver Heaviside corrected Maxwell's equations due
to incorrect assumptions on the part of Maxwell, Einstein
refused to credit Heaviside for this work and insisted on
calling them Maxwell's Equations, because Heaviside never
went to college and did not have a degree from a
university. Heaviside was poor and could not afford to go
to college and was self taught. Thus, no degree, so no
credit for brilliant work. Einstein would rather give the
credit to the idiot who got it wrong.

Einstein was right on the money! Just ask Bert who knew him well.
Nobody outside of formal science should EVER get credit for their work
when there are so many deserving Westerners who could use the credit.
And that goes double if they come from India and have their own fan club
(with only one or two exceptions to the rule).

And why not? I mean as smart as Einstein was, he was surely smart enough
to understand that the ONLY way to human Utopia is a leftist socialist
workers police state. Just read the arguments here and you'll be
convinced that Einstein was right too!

Heh, heh .....

Einstein should have stuck to physics. That was
his strong suite.

I can kind of *understand* why - after all the nastiness
of the NAZIs - he'd tend to embrace something seemingly
the opposite. It's a common human mistake - "the enemies
of my enemies MUST be my friends". Alas they weren't ...
and Stalin hated Jews too.

Those "planned economies" ... they sound SO great
in some ivory-tower discussion group. Pure theory.
It's when they try to put theory into PRACTICE that
the serious problems emerge.

Socialism and most especially Marxism require ... well ...
some kind of species other than human if they're gonna
work smoothly. Seems that when humans don't think
feel or act like they're "supposed to" - that's when
the whips and guns come out to MAKE them be happy
little collectivists campers.

Maybe tomorrows robots will be Marxists ...

Suicides, homicides, homelessness and war are bad PTSD/pain management.
Heroin and OxyContin were sold as safe opiates -- they aren't.
Likewise, communism is not a safe opiate/religon.

Everyone has a theory, no one has a solution.

Cuba is wrong. North Korea is wrong.
Stop insisting that everyone "earns" the same income,
no matter his race, gender, age, competence, etc.

We _need_ losers, lots of them;
it's how we progress -- we select the best.

Stop pretending that we all need to drive Mercedes,
dropping off kids for soccer practice.

Stop punishing sex workers and heroin addicts.
Stop saying:
This ( my heavy hand ) is what you get, you degenerate.

What's sci.physics have to do with any of this ?

Well, I'm not a 'drug war' person ... so I'll let people TRY
"communism" - so long as they keep it to themselves.
The hippie-dippies tried it in the 60s. Didn't work out
very well. Reality and Darwin's animal conspired to
ruin it for them.

Of course there were a few troublemakers who blamed
the SCALE of the experiments ... it'd all work out just
perfectly if *everyone* had a gun put to their heads so
they'd be good little commies .........

Those are the ones to worry about.
Post by J***@.
Everyone has a theory, no one has a solution.
What, a sociopolitical or theosociological theory ?

I call them "idiot-ologies". Make up a few "Truths"
and then do a lot of chain logic with them to "prove"
your theory. Trouble is that almost everything to do
with humans is terribly subjective, the "Truths" are
worthless, just stuff humans would like. So, your
first links in the chain are defective and it just gets
worse from there.

Ya know what ... there ARE NO "solutions". What
we have are eight billion opinions of The Way Things
Ought To Be ... edited daily. There's no "solution"
to that, no equation.

What we CAN do though is create the Big Fudge ...
not "Truths", not "solutions" per-se but instead one
or two generously slack-filled social plans that
almost everybody can more-or-less tolerate for
a few years or decades. They won't be fixed, they
will evolve along with those eight billion opinions.
"Hey everybody, how do you feel about X, Y and Z
today hmm ?"

It's sloppy, it's kinda slippery, inefficient, sometimes
(maybe often) it'll contain errors - in short a perfect
match for a species that loves to believe six

term, it IS a "plan", a social blueprint, and at least
a usable degree of order and cooperation can exist.

"What we chose" (consumption) has been programmed into us ( by nature ).
Ways to do it:

Either way, the (PreProgrammed) objective is the same: consume.

Indeed ...

Not super-hard ... plenty of libraries for most any

Python would be easy, but Delphi/Lazarus makes
setting up the GUI a snap.

Even thus, LOTS of time to be invested even in such
a "simple" kind of application. Don't have it anymore.

The big mystery ... why for Win-10 ? It's just a giant
clunky heap of spyware. Plenty of nice Linux distros
to choose from these days.

You don't need to be a genius to make good use
of Linux these days. Lots of good apps, can do
most anything Winders can do - plus some other
tricks Winders can't. Very secure, free, customizable.
Use one with the KDE desktop for a more Winders
look and feel ... but there are others to choose from.
I like LXDE ... all business, no BS.

Now in the old days ... yea, Linux was WORK. :-)

I'd recommend Lubuntu Linux, but you can read the
reviews on http://distrowatch.com and see who's
using what and what's special about each particular
distribution. I'd avoid Arch linux though unless you
ARE keen on working hard ... it's a kind of "roll you
own" version for the real nuts & bolts people.

Download, burn to stick or dvd. "Live" versions can
be booted on-demand without installing to hard disk.
Some burners allow a space where data will be
saved between uses instead of just disappearing.
I *think* there's a Linux that can be started a and
run INSIDE of Winders.

I *think* there's a Linux that can be started a and run INSIDE of Winders.
If you create a virtual machine in Windoze*, any distro can be run in it.
* It took 6 hours to download and install an update to Win 10 today.
I've got a 100Mb internet connection and my computer has an
AMD A10 processor! Not a slow machine by any means.
Yes but the updates are worth it, sometimes.
My Win10 box doesn't update UnlessAndUntil I ask for it;
sadly, MicroSoft makes this hard to do.

From my "Jeff-Relf.Me/Win10.REG.TXT":

Stop/Disable the "Windows Update", "Windows Modules Installer",
and "Background Intelligence transfer" services; then reboot.
AutoRuns.EXE kills "Startup" items.

ReName "Reboot" to ". Kill Scheduled Reboot" in:
C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator
Create a "Reboot" folder, so the OS can't ReCreate the file;
then reboot.

Delete "C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\Setup"

VMs are pretty good these days. However you're better
off using a Linux as the base system and installing W10
as a VM instead of the other way around.

Well, actually, why contaminate a perfectly good VM
with garbageware like W10 ..... ?

I've got a W2k VM ... last "good" Winders IMHO :-)

There ARE lots of Indian products ... but they're
bought by companies that slap their own label
over the "Made In India". There's not a giant
amount of *hardware* made in India, but a lot
of the code in yer *software* and *firmware* was
subcontracted to Indian firms.

The current (but slowly improving) economic picture
makes it difficult to produce "Made In USA" tech
products at anywhere near a competitive price. We
*invented* a lot of this stuff, but can't *make* it here.

I will give the Japanese due credit. It's something about
their "perfection thru simplicity" philosophy - reduction
to essential elements. They took a lot of clunky US
tech inventions and, by cutting out the BS, refined them
into far more affordable and reliable products. IMHO
there's a symbiotic, almost yin/yang, relationship
between US & Japan tech thinking.

$$$

Indian tech seems to be more "ad hoc" ... lots of
individual (mostly software/firmware) concerns but
nobody's bought 'em out and put 'em all under one
banner. Dunno if that's due to the local economic
environment or because of the way the laws are
written.

My laser printer/scanner is Japanese ( Brother ); it works well.
I will give the Japanese due credit.
It's something about their "perfection thru simplicity" philosophy
- reduction to essential elements.
They took a lot of clunky US tech inventions and, by cutting out the BS,
refined them into far more affordable and reliable products.
IMHO there's a symbiotic, almost yin/yang, relationship
between US & Japan tech thinking.
We used to "Xerox" stuff, now we "make copies" ( on a Japanese printer ).
Once, Apple had the only good laser printer; then HP, now Brother.
Once, courts punished MicroSoft for being an evil monopoly... no longer.
Today, in the -English- speaking world, Google/YouTube/Amazon dominate.
In India, no one has a monopoly, I think.
If this opinion relies on you thinking, Rolf, then it's probably wrong.

" I honor Lenin as a man who completely sacrificed himself
and devoted all his energy to the realization of social justice.
I do not consider his methods practical,
but one thing is certain: men of his type
are the guardians and restorers of humanity. "

We _need_ losers, lots of them;
it's how we progress -- we select the best.
Lucky for us Rolf, YOU PERSONALLY have set the standard for the progress
of the human race. Without losers like YOU and lots of them (like we
find here in great numbers) we'd have no human progress.

We all thank you Rolf from the bottom of our hearts for being such a
loser to help us all progress!

Hmm ... by chance, did you attend one of those
public schools where *everybody* gets a blue
ribbon, even for "participation" ? Where *everyone*
is told they're just *so* great and good ?

They were LYING to you.

Einstein should have stuck to physics. That was
his strong suite. […]
Someone like you who cannot post, cannot even *spell* properly (and this is
evidently not a typo) should just shut up about people who are way smarter.

A: It doesn't conduct itself.

My ISP only allows five ... can't even count that
high Mr. Pointyhead hmm ? :-)

And I still think Einstein should have stayed out
of politics. Could predict spacetime curving in
on itself but couldn't figure out that communism
was a horrible unworkable disaster ....
